Sebacoyl chloride
CAS 111-19-3
The nylon rope trick works because a liquid-liquid interface can become a factory only a few molecules thick.
Sebacoyl chloride powers the classic nylon rope trick. With two acyl chloride ends, it reacts with a diamine at the boundary between immiscible liquids. Because both monomers are difunctional, nylon 6,10 grows rapidly at the interface. Pull away the polymer film and fresh interface forms, producing more strand. A molecular-thin boundary becomes a visible polymer factory.
