Selamectin is primarily used in veterinary medicine for the prevention and treatment of parasitic infestations in companion animals, including dogs and cats. It is effective against a wide range of parasites, including fleas, ticks, ear mites, and certain intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms. Selamectin is commonly formulated as a topical solution for easy administration and provides long-lasting protection against parasites. One of the key applications of selamectin in veterinary medicine is its role in the prevention of heartworm disease in dogs and cats. Heartworm disease, caused by the parasite Dirofilaria immitis, can be life-threatening if left untreated.
