That's cyclopropane—a tiny molecular triangle.
And those three carbons aren't particularly comfortable.
Carbon normally prefers bond angles of about 109.5 degrees. Force three carbon atoms into a ring, and the geometry becomes severely constrained. The result is ""ring strain"": energy stored in the molecular structure.
Now attach an aldehyde to that tiny triangle and you get cyclopropanecarboxaldehyde.
For chemists, that's a useful combination.
The aldehyde acts like a molecular connector. Through reactions such as reductive amination, chemists can attach the cyclopropyl group to much larger molecules.
