Diphenyliodanium nonafluorobutanesulfonate (CAS 194999-82-1; DPI-109) is a photoacid generator. Light activates the diaryliodonium ion, and subsequent chemistry produces strong acid from the fluorinated sulfonate system. In chemically amplified photoresists, that acid catalyzes many polymer reactions after exposure. A stable salt thus becomes a molecular converter from photons to catalytic chemistry.
