Antihistamine

Antihistamines are a widely recognized and commonly used class of drugs within the realm of allergy treatment. These medications work by specifically targeting histamine, a chemical produced by the immune system in response to allergens. By blocking the effects of histamine, antihistamines alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and hives. There are two primary types of antihistamines: first-generation and second-generation. First-generation antihistamines, like diphenhydramine, are known for their effectiveness but may cause drowsiness. Second-generation antihistamines, such as cetirizine and loratadine, are less likely to cause drowsiness and are suitable for everyday use. Antihistamines are the go-to choice for managing various allergies, including seasonal allergies (hay fever), allergic conjunctivitis (eye allergies), and skin allergies.
